Island Scene Festival
Several thousand families participated in the HMSA Island Scene Festival at Kakaako
Gateway Park to learn about good health, fitness and healthy eating. At the festival,
named after HMSA’s award-winning Island Scene magazine, families
learned about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through cooking demonstrations,
a farmers market, and health booths. The festival also promoted the importance
of physical activities with an inflatable obstacle course, a rock-climbing wall,
and games.
Several organizations provided health information, including the American Diabetes
Association, Hawaii Foods: Nutrition with Aloha, YMCA of Honolulu, and U.S. Wellness.
A portion of the event proceeds supported Lanakila Pacific’s Meals on Wheels
Program. The Hawaii Department of Agriculture and the University of Hawaii’s
College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources supported the festival.
