Our members need information, and HMSA provides it for them via several media. From
plan benefits to health information, we disseminate our messages in print, on television
and radio, and via the Web and social media.
Island Scene
Island Scene magazine, HMSA’s quarterly magazine, provides members with a
variety of stories on health and fitness, healthy recipes, HMSA member news, and
other timely topics. Its online companion, Island Scene Online,
delivers access to new health articles, the current issue of the magazine, and searchable
archives.
In 2009, Island Scene was distributed to 320,000 households each quarter. According
to the results of a 2008 OmniTrak survey, more than 70 percent of Island Scene readers
said they were likely to recommend the magazine to others, and more than half of
the respondents said the magazine motivated them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
HMSA Now on YouTube
Formerly available only to digital TV channel subscribers, HMSA Now on YouTube offers
HMSA videos on a wide variety of health and health plan topics. HMSA Now on YouTube
enables more people to easily access videos on customer service information and
frequently asked questions, Akamai Living segments and shows, and HMSA community
events, Teen Video Award winners, KHON2’s Akamai Living segments, and commercials.
Social Media
HMSA has embraced new tools, technology, and other ways to communicate with consumers
and encourage them to interact with us. Social media, such as Twitter and Facebook,
allows us to disperse information quickly and efficiently to followers. Currently,
Twitter accounts include @AskHMSA,
@IslandScene, @AkamaiLiving and
@HealthPass. On Facebook,
Island Scene magazine posts links to articles from the current
print issue; HealthPass
offers tidbits of information that encourage healthy habits.
Information Center on hmsa.com
To make it easier for our members to get answers to common questions, we created
the Information Center on our website. Members can find articles in categories such
as "Manage Your Plan," "Using Your Benefits," "Important
Member Documents," and "Prescription Drugs." New articles are continually
added to the existing bank of articles as the need arises. Of course, our local
customer service representatives are available to answer members’ questions
over the phone.
