Technology Solutions for Members and Employer Groups

HMSA programs make the most of today’s technology to improve access to care for our community, simplify the administration of HMSA health plans for employers, and provide information for our members.

  • HMSA’s Online Care, introduced in January 2009, links Hawaii residents statewide with physicians from HMSA’s network, online or by phone, 24 hours a day. Users appreciate the system’s convenience and immediacy, especially in the state’s rural areas.
  • Electronic enrollment for HMSA health plans, which began as a pilot project in 2009, allows employers to administer their employees’ health plans online. It’s convenient and easy to use, with the potential for significant savings in administrative costs.
  • My Account lets members take charge of their HMSA health plan. From My Account, members can access HMSA’s Online Care, use online drug tools for their HMSA drug plan, see their claims history, order a duplicate HMSA card, and more.
  • HMSA Now presents informative and entertaining HMSA videos on the popular and easy-to-use YouTube website. Video topics include good health and healthy living, highlights from HMSA events, and more.
  • The Customer Service Information Center on HMSA’s website gives members convenient, round-the-clock access to extensive HMSA customer service information. Sought-after topics include coordination of benefits, finding participating providers, mail-order drugs, and much more.

In January 2010, HMSA launched the first of many new consumer tools with new member drug tools, accessible through each member’s personalized My Account feature. These tools can help you save money on prescriptions, contact a pharmacist 24 hours a day, alert you to possible drug interactions, and more.

We are also working on new tools to help members manage their health and evaluate the cost and quality of health care they receive. All these new applications will enable HMSA members to become better informed and participate actively in their health and health care.
